Alfred State Suffered Two Hard Fought Losses To Rockford

Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State Baseball team dropped two close battles against Rockford, 6-5 and 3-1. 
 
Game One – 6-5

At the plate, Frank Grad went 2-4, while Jordan Hughes and Zach Young both went 1-3 with a double. Sean Connor went 1-1 with a homer and two RBIs. On the mound, Logan Lutz suffered the loss.

The Royals got on the broad first as the score one in the first and three in the third, for the 4-0 lead. The Pioneers got on the broad in the fourth as they scored one run. Grad led off with a single to center field. Young got walked to follow, and a sacrifice bunt by Joshua Gardner moved both runners into scoring position. Then Grad would score on an error to make it a 4-1 game.

Later in the fifth, Rockford added two runs to their lead to make it a 6-1 game. Alfred cut into the deficit in the top on the sixth after scoring two runs of their own. With one out, Grad tallied a single down the right field line. Young followed with an RBI double to center field to make it a 6-2 game. Two batters later, Hughes notched an RBI double to right field to make it a 6-3 game.

In the seventh, The Pioneers tried to rally. Gavin Lasko led off with a single toward the shortstop. Then two batters later, Sean Connor stepped into the box and hit a first pitch bomb to make it a 6-5 game. The Pios were unable to get any closer as they fell 6-5.

Game Two – 3-1

In game two Hughes went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Zach Miner suffered a loss on the mound.

After a few scoreless innings, the Royals struck first with two runs in the fourth. ASC responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Young got hit by pitch to lead off the inning, and Logan Lutz moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hughes followed with his RBI double to make it a 2-1 game.

Rockford was able to add one more insurance run as they went on to win 3-1. The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Geneva College at 12 pm.
