Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State Baseball team had a dominate outing in win over Geneva, 13-6. The Pioneers move to 5-15 on the season.
Aiden Cowburn led the way as he went 3-4 with a triple and four RBIs.
Frank Grad went 2-5 with a double, while
Jordan Hughes went 2-6 with two RBIs, and picked up the win on the mound, as he pitched 6.0 innings scattering six hits over one run with nine strikeouts.
After a scoreless first inning, the Pios got on the board first as they scored one run in the second. With two outs, Cowburn got walked and stole second a few pitches later.
Dylan DeMaro got walked and
Matty Eygabroad followed with a bunt single to load the bases. The Pioneers would score on a wild pitch to take the 1-0 lead.
After a few scoreless innings, the Pioneers got the bats going in the fifth and sixth as they scored six runs in each inning. In the fifth, Grad led off with a double down the right field line, then a single from
Zach Young put runners on the corners. Hughes followed with a two RBI single to right field for the 3-0 lead. Lasko then tallied an RBI single through the left side for the 4-0 lead. After a change of pitchers,
Sean Connor laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, before Cowburn notched a two RBI triple to make it a 6-0 game. On the next pitch, Cowburn would score on a sacrifice fly from DeMaro for the 7-0 lead.
In the sixth inning,
Logan Lutz led off with a single up the middle. Hughes and Lasko followed with back-to-back singles before Connor got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cowburn then stepped in the box and tallied a two RBI single up the middle for the 9-0 lead. DeMaro reached on an error to reload the bases, before Eygabroad put in a two RBI single to left field for the 11-0 lead. Two batters later, Young tallied an RBI single to center field for the 12-0 lead. The Pioneers would get one more run off an RBI singe from Lutz, for the 13-0 lead.
The Golden Tornadoes answered with one run in the sixth and three runs in the in the seventh to make it a 13-4 game. Then in the ninth, Geneva scored two more runs but could not get any closer as the Pios went on to win 13-6. The Pioneers will wrap up their Florida trip with a game against Haverford tomorrow at 9 am.
