Pittsburgh, PA – The Alfred State baseball team swept the day against La Roche, 6-1 in game one and 8-5 in game two. The Pioneers move to 9-16 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
Game One 6-1
In this
Jordan Hughes got the win on the mound as he pitched 5.0 innings only allowing one unearned run on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Dominic Morsch came in relief and pitched 2.0 innings tallying two strikeouts.
ASC got on the board first as they scored one run in their first at-bat.
Frank Grad got hit by pitch to open the game. Then after a
Zach Young single and a Hughes walk loaded the bases, an RBI sacrifice fly from
Joshua Gardner gave Alfred the 1-0 lead.
The Redhawks scored a run of their own in the second, and Alfred regained the lead in the top of the third. Grad would get hit by a pitch to lead off the third, he would advance to second on a wild pitch before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Grad would go home and score on a wild pitch for the 2-1 lead.
After a few scoreless innings, the Pioneers added four runs to their lead in the seventh.
Aiden Cowburn led off with a single to center field. After a hit by pitch and a bunt single loaded the bases, Cowburn would score an error for the 3-1 lead. Following a pitching change, an RBI sacrifice fly from Young made it a 4-1 game.
Gavin Lasko then stepped in the box and tallied an RBI single to right field. Hughes followed with an RBI single to extend the Pioneers lead to 6-1. The Pios held off La Roche in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
Game Two 8-5
In game two, Hughes went 1-4 with a homerun and three RBIs, while Young went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Dylan DeMaro and
Matty Eygabroad also added homers, while Lasko tallied a double. On the mound,
Daniel Lewis came in relief and got the win as he pitched 1.1 innings tallying two strikeouts.
La Roche got on the board first as they scored two runs in the first and one in the fourth for the 3-0 lead. Alfred State answered with two runs in the fifth. With one out, Eygabroad notched a solo homerun to left center to make it a 3-1 game. Grad got walked to follow, then Young tallied an RBI double to center to cut it to a one run deficit, 3-2.
In the sixth, the Redhawks added a run to their lead to make it a 4-2 game. The Pios went off for four runs in the seventh to take their first lead of the game 7-4. With one out, Eygabroad got walked.
After a change of pitchers, Grad singled to left field to get two runners on. Young then tallied an RBI single, and Lasko followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 4-4. Hughes then stepped in the box and gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game with a three-run bomb for the 7-4 lead. T
Later in the eighth, DeMaro gave the Pios an extra insurance run as he led off with a solo homer, for the 8-4 lead. La Roche scored one run in the bottom of the eighth but could not get any closer as the Pioneers went on to win 8-5. The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday as they head to RIT for a game against the Tigers.
