Slow Start Sinks Pioneers Despite Mid-Game Surge

Houghton, NY- The Alfred State Baseball team could not overcome an early lead by the Pitt-Bradford Panters, falling in a 15-7 loss, despite a strong push in the middle innings.

Two Pioneers garnered homers in today's single game, Zach Young and Max Gladke both going 1-4, their only hits being over the fence. Logan Lutz went 2-3 with a triple, while Jordan Hughes went 1-4 with two RBI and a double.

Pitt-Bradford wasted no time taking control, grabbing five runs in the second inning. They continued to keep the pressure on in the third, rallying another five runs to stretch their lead, 10-0. The Pioneers began to chip away at the deficit in the fifth inning. Gladke put the Pios on the board with a two-run homer to left field, and Dylan DeMaro followed with a sac fly to make it 10-3. ASC continued their momentum into the sixth, as they mounted on a comeback attempt. Young blasted a two-run homer, Hughes added an RBI double, and Lutz brought another run home with a sacrificed fly, trimming the lead to 10-7.

However, the Panthers responded once again to put the game out of the Pioneers reach, extending and sealing the victory 15-7. ASC is now 9-17 on the season, 4-0 in conference play.

The Pios hit the road this weekend, to head to Pitt-Bradford for a conference double-header on Saturday, game times set for 1 and 3 pm.
