Oneonta, NY- The Alfred State Baseball team dropped a tightly contested matchup to the Oneonta Red Dragons, falling 5-4 after a late-game push. The Pioneers are now 7-16 overall, 2-0 in conference play.

At the plate, Jordan Hughes went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Matty Eygabroad went 2-4 as well with a singular RBI, while Zach Young and Aiden Cowburn both recorded doubles. Christian Morrison also went 2-2 at the plate.

The Red Dragons found their way onto the scoreboard first, in the second inning, slating one run. After two scoreless innings for both teams, the Pioneers were able to take control for half an inning, as they scored two runs on ground outs from Max Gladke and Matty Eygabroad. Oneonta quickly responded in the bottom of the fifth, plating two runs to take the lead once again, 3-2.

In the next inning, the Pios grabbed a singular run off a Hughes single to right field to score Young, tying the game 3-3. With strong defense, ASC held the Red Dragons from scoring in the sixth and seventh innings. The Pioneers slated another run in the seventh to take the lead, as Young sac flied to center, scoring Gladke. The single run for Alfred State was not enough as Oneonta scored two in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a comeback win, 5-4.

The Pioneers head back out on the road again this weekend to La Roche for a conference double-header, first pitch set for 1 pm.
