Allentown, PA- The Alfred State women's lacrosse team won their fourth straight game Saturday afternoon on the road against Cedar Crest, 10-7. The Pioneers Advance to 5-1 on the season.
Katerina Strong had a standout performance, scoring four goals along with two assists.
Karlee Hargather provided two goals and two assists along with five draw controls.
Regan Curabba recorded one goal and assist along with scooping up five ground balls.
Maeve Runyon made four saves on 11 shots in the victory.
Strong opened the scoring 1:44 into the contest off a feed from
Kari Annunziato for the 1-0 lead. Eric Jackson was able to reestablish the lead with 5:23 left to go, making it 2-1. Although, the Falcons tied it at the end of the quarter at 2-2.
Cedar Crest took all the momentum to start the second, going on a three-goal run, giving them a 5-2 lead with 9:04 left in the half.
Erica Jackson netted a solo goal four minutes later to cut the lead to 5-3. The Falcons scored again with two minutes remaining, but Hargather was able to beat the buzzer with five seconds left in the half for a man up goal, as the Pioneers tailed 6-4 at the break.
Alfred State came out of halftime with renewed energy, scoring just 32 seconds into the third quarter as Hargather capitalized on a man-up opportunity. The Pioneers controlled the remainder of the quarter as Strong added another man-up goal before scoring again five minutes later to give Alfred State an 8-6 lead. Cedar Crest answered with a goal before the end of the quarter, setting up a tight fourth with the Pioneers leading 8-7.
In the fourth, Strong scored again on a man-up opportunity to create a two-goal cushion with 10:39 remaining.
Alaina Gernatt added an insurance goal with 4:07 left as Alfred State secured the 10-7 victory.
Alfred State crosses the street for its next contest on Thursday, March 19, as the Pioneers take on Alfred University in the Alfred Cup. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
