Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State softball team picked up a pair of wins on day five of the Gene Cusic Classic, defeating Brooklyn College 15–6 in game one and Geneva College 2–1 in game two.
Game 1:
Sydney Howard picked up the win in the circle for the Pioneers, as she is now 2-0 this week. Offensively, the Pios were unstoppable at the plate.
Liana Dion went 4-4 with two RBI,
Abbie Millard cranking a 3-4 with a triple, double and three RBI.
Ariel Maine collected two doubles for herself while
Jordyn Colvin notched an in the park homer.
Millard ignited ASC's bats as she tripled to center to score one run in the top of the first. Millard would then be plated by a Maine double, 2-0. Brooklyn was able to snag a singular run in the bottom of the inning which was short lived as the Pioneers slated three additional runs in the second. Colvin knocked a homer over the right fielder followed by Millard scoring another run of a single. After another Bulldog run in the bottom of the second, Alfred would go on to plate six runs in the third and fourth innings, giving them a solid lead 9-2.
ASC continued to tack on runs as Maine, Dion and
Madigan Harris knocked balls around the park to plate their teammates. Going into the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers were up 13-3 but unfortunately let in three runs. Alfred closed it out in the sixth tallying two more safety runs to take the win 15-6.
Game 2:
Marissa Ordway saw the mound for game two and picked up a big win for ASC. Ordway tallied three strikeouts and only allowed seven hits. Maine went 1-2 at the plate with a double while Millard also went 1-2 with a RBI.
Geneva grabbed a singular run to put them on the board first. The Pioneers responded in the bottom of the first as Millard flew out to left to score
Hailey Lacko, 1-1. The remainder of the game went scoreless for both teams until the sixth inning until Harris singled to center to plate one run. Ordway closed out the game in the seventh to bring home the win, 2-1.
The Pioneers take on Westfield State and Geneva College on their last day in Fort Myers. First pitch set for 9 am.
