Pioneers Grab Big Offensive Win Over Blue Jays

Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State Softball team went 1-1 on the day, grabbing a big win over the St. Joseph Blue Jays 12-10 and taking a first game loss to Crown 10-5. The Pioneers head into their Friday games with a 3-5 record.
 
Game 1:
 
Marissa Ordway saw the mound for game one, with Sophia Petrie coming in midway to relieve her. Ordway recorded three strikeouts while Petrie notched four. At the plate, Madigan Harris and Jordyn Colvin both tallied triples and Isidora Hurlbut and Liana Dion added in doubles of their own.
 
ASC put five runs on the board in the first inning, giving them a 5-0 lead. Hurlbut would score on a wild pitch to ignite the rally. Dion then doubled to left field to score two, quickly followed by a Harris triple to plate Dion. Colvin would then knock her own triple to score Harris. The Pioneers would then continue to let up runs from Crown, as they scored in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take the win 10-5.
 
Game 2:
 
Hannah Powers started in the circle for game two and recorded her first collegiate win. Powers tallied six strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. Sydney Howard came in to close our the game earning herself a save.
 
Abbie Millard had a hot bat in the second game as she went 3-4 with her first collegiate home run and four RBI. Colvin went 3-3 with a double, triple and two RBI. Dion contributed heavily, going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI as well.
 
The Blue Jays slated two of their own runs in the top of the first to which the Pios responded to immediately. Hurlbut lit up a ball to right field for a double to start the five run rally, scoring one. Colvin would then double as well, scoring Hurlbut and Dion. Trinity Scott singled through the right side to score Colvin, followed by Millard scoring Scott on a single, 5-2. St. Josephs grabbed two more runs in the fourth but the Pioneers didn't let up offensively. Alfred notched five more runs in the next few innings to put them ahead, 10-4. Three of those runs coming from a Millard homer to center. After allowing the Blue Jays to add on two more runs, the Pios notched another two security runs in the sixth inning. USJ competed offensively in the seventh, as they slated four more runs but Howard closed the game out 12-10.
 
ASC will take on Geneva at 9 am and Brooklyn at 11 am tomorrow.
