Virginia Beach, VA- The Alfred State baseball team falls in battle against Brockport, 11-5. The Pioneers split the series against the Golden Eagles 1-1.
Zach Young led the way at the plate as he went 3-5 with two doubles, while
Justin Angora added a double after going 1-2 at the plate.
Frank Grad went 1-5 with a homerun and two RBIs. On the mound,
Landen Stoddard suffered the loss.
Brockport struck first, scoring one run in each of the first, third, and fifth innings. The Pios got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as they scored four runs. Angora led off the inning with a double to left center, and
Christian Morrison followed with a walk. Two batters later,
Trey Buchholz tallied an RBI single to right field make it a 3-1 game. Then an RBI sacrifice fly from
Matty Eygabroad made it a 3-2 game. Grad would follow with a two-run blast over the right field fence to give Alfred State the 4-3 lead.
The Golden Eagles answered with four runs in the sixth, one run in the seventh, and three runs in the eighth top regain the lead, 11-4. The Pioneers fought back and scored one run in the bottom of the eighth.
Joshua Gardner opened with a single through the left side. After a pitcher change, the Pios loaded the bases after back-to-back walks. Then
Anthony Snyder stepped in the box and put in an RBI single down the left field line to make it an 11-5 game.
From there, ASC could not get any closer as they fell 11-5. The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Fort Myers for the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic starting on the March 8
th.
