Bridges, Doan Net Two Each in Setback to SUNY Poly

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup to SUNY Poly at home, Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers move to 0-3 on the season. 
 
Griffin Doan led the offensive effort scoring two goals along with one assist on eight shots. Matthew Bridges scored two of his own on seven shots. Ryan Batson recorded his first goal of the season off three total shots. Matthew Burris made 27 saves on 46 shots in the defeat. 
 
SUNY Poly opened the scoring with two quick goals in the opening minute before the Pioneers answered midway through the first quarter. Matthew Bridges got Alfred State on the board at the 6:01 mark off a feed from Brady Nugent. Just 25 seconds later, Griffin Doan buried a man-up opportunity from Anthony Kuc to tie the game at 2-2. The Wildcats responded with a six-goal run over the final three minutes of the first quarter to take a 6-2 lead into the second.
 
Alfred State battled back in the second quarter as Doan netted his second of the afternoon, assisted by Brendon O'Donnell, and Bridges followed with his second goal of the game off a helper from Doan to cut the deficit to 6-4. SUNY Poly answered with two goals later in the frame to take an 8-4 advantage into halftime.
 
SUNY Poly controlled the third quarter, scoring five times to extend the lead to 13-4. The Pioneers broke through again early in the fourth as Ryan Batson found the back of the net for his first of the season. The Wildcats added six more goals down the stretch to secure the 19-5 victory.
 
The Pioneers hit the road on Wednesday, March 4th to take on SUNY Potsdam. Faceoff scheduled for 4pm.
