ASC Edged in Doubleheader at Virginia Wesleyan

 
Virginia Beach, VA- The Alfred State baseball team took two losses on the road at Virginia Wesleyan, 4-3 and 12-7. The Pioneers drop to 0-10 on the season. 
 
Game 1 
In game one, Joey Sanna went 2-4 at the plate with one RBI, while scoring once. Jordan Hughes went 1-4 while tallying two RBIs. Caleb Wilson went 7.1 innings on the mound while recording two strikeouts. 
 
Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 4th inning. Alfred State responded in the 6th , scoring three runs as Sanna doubled to bring Matty Eygabroad home to cut the lead in half 2-1. Later in the inning, Hughes singled to center bringing in Sanna and Zach Young for the 3-2 ASC lead. However, Virginia Wesleyan answered in the 9th with two runs, giving the Marlins a 4-3 win over the Pioneers. 
 
Game 2 
In game two, Jordan Hughes went 2-5 scoring one run along with one RBI. Sean Connor went 1-3 scoring one run and recording one RBI. Christian Morrison went 1-4 with one run and one RBI. Nathan Lucks took the loss on the mound pitching three innings while striking out three batters. 
 
Alfred State opened the scoring in the 4th inning, as Hughes doubled to drive in Anthony Snyder, followed by Morrison's double that scored Hughes to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a seven-run frame, taking a 7-2 advantage, and added four more in the 6th to push the lead to 11-3.
 
Alfred State chipped away in the late innings, with a Brody Froman sacrifice fly scoring Snyder in the 6th, followed by a Frank Grad RBI fielder's choice in the 7th. In the 8th, Connor's single, Eygabroad's hit-by-pitch, and Young's Walk produced three more runs, closing the gap to 12-7, but the Pioneers could not complete the comeback.
 
Alfred State will take on SUNY Brockport in Virginia Beach tomorrow, February 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
