Alfred State Drops High-Scoring SUNYAC Contest to Fredonia, 6-3

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State women's soccer team jumped out to an early two-goal lead, but Fredonia answered with six of the game's final seven goals to earn a 6-3 victory in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Just 1:20 into the match, Regan Curabba opened the scoring off an assist from Isabella Hoffmann. The duo connected again less than six minutes later as Curabba netted her second goal of the afternoon to give Alfred State a 2-0 advantage.

Fredonia responded quickly, to even the score at 2-2 midway through the opening half.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the 20th minute when Hoffmann found the back of the net off a feed from Tristyn Williams, putting Alfred State back in front 3-2.

The Blue Devils responded again before halftime. They scored in the 40th minute to tie the contest, and struck again with just four seconds remaining in the opening half to send Fredonia into the break with a 4-3 advantage.

Alfred State generated quality opportunities in the second half as Stella Kwiatek recorded three shots on goal and Williams also tested the Fredonia keeper, but the Blue Devils' defense kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard.

Fredonia added insurance goals put the game out of reach.

Curabba finished with two goals for the Pioneers, increasing her season total to seven, while Hoffmann had a four-point afternoon with a goal and two assists. Williams added an assist, and Kwiatek placed all three of her shots on target. In goal, Madeline Cox made eight saves while facing 20 shots. Alfred State finished with 10 shots, including eight on goal, and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Coach Anne Holmok said post game:

We gave up unearned goals, they converted on our mistakes. We made some mental mistakes, but as we move forward we will have the ability to win many games in the SUNYAC, once we all get on the same page.

The Pioneers will hit the road on October 6th for a game against the Hilbert Hawks. Kickoff for that game is at 4 pm
