Alfred, NY- This week's Pioneer Athletes of the Week are Taylor Benjamin (Women's Basketball) and Hunter LaVigne (Men's Wrestling).
 

Taylor Benjamin (Newark Valley, NY, Newark Valley) led the Pioneers to a 2-0 week as she averaged 21.5 points per game and three steals while shooting 57.1% percent from the floor and 45% behind the arc. She opened the week with 21 points, four assists, and three steals in a win over Hilbert. Benjamin followed with a 22 point outing in the win over Pitt-Greensburg. With her 21 points against Hilbert, Benjamin became the third Pioneer in program history to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. 
 

Hunter LaVigne (Horseheads, NY, Horseheads) won the 197 bracket at the Jamestown Open today. After a first round bye, LaVigne tallied a 1:35 fall over Bear Horgan (JCU). He followed with a 1:07 fall over Tufan Khalilov (PSCW). In the semifinals match, he notched his third first round fall of the day in 1:11 over Juuso Young (JCU). In the first-place match, LaVigne took down Gaetano Savelli (GU) in a 17-1 tech fall victory to take the title.
