Lawson And Hardeman Power Pioneers Past Altoona

Altoona, PA - The Alfred State men's basketball team picked up its second conference win of the season on the road, defeating Penn State Altoona 89–73. With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 4–10 overall and 2–3 in conference play.

Kennyh Hardeman was dominant on both ends of the floor, recording a double-double with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Mykell Lawson led all scorers with 33 points while adding eight rebounds, and Darius Cunningham Jr. chipped in 10 points and six boards.

Cunningham Jr. opened the scoring just one minute into the first half with a three-pointer. After early back-and-forth action, the Pioneers pulled away with a nine-point run sparked by a Lawson three. Lawson added a free throw during the stretch, while Cunningham Jr. and Eli Taft contributed to extend the lead to 22–13. Alfred State carried its momentum into halftime, holding a 14-point advantage as the Lions struggled to keep pace.

Penn State Altoona came out aggressive in the second half, looking to cut into the deficit, but the Pioneers matched the energy. Hardeman tipped in two baskets to keep Alfred State ahead by 12 with just over 11 minutes remaining. The Lions briefly threatened, trimming the lead to four at 64–60, but Lawson answered with back-to-back three-pointers at the eight-minute mark to restore control, 75–62.

With seven minutes left, the Pioneers put the game out of reach, stretching the lead past 20 points. Altoona was unable to recover, as Alfred State closed out the 89–73 conference victory.
