ASC Unable To Find Their Momentum As They Take First Loss In Buff State Classic

Buffalo, NY- The Alfred State Volleyball team fell short in their first match-up in the Buffalo State Classic against the Geneseo Knights, 0-3 (13-25, 19-25, 19-25).

Gloria Stem and Alayna Tomlinson both notched seven kills on the day, Stem adding seven digs as well. Gabriella Thurmond earned 18 assists and three aces.

In set one, the Pioneers struggled to find their grove, as Tomlinson was only able to grab two kills, down 2-5. With the help of some Knight errors, the Pios were able to tie the set. Geneseo kept scraping away at ASC, earning too far of a lead for the Pioneers to catch up as the Knights pulled away and took the first set, 13-25.

The Pios found their momentum in the second set as Caitlyn Gilman notched the first kill. Both teams battling out each point, Alfred was able to tie the set multiple times but could never find that lead they were looking for. Alli Hillyard and Erin Gregoire were able to add to the scoreboard in hopes of helping the Pioneers but to no eval as Geneseo took the second set, 19-25.

Gilman and Thurmond ignited the third set with an impressive block followed by a Thurmond service ace. The Pioneers successfully held a six-point lead over the Knights, 11-5. Geneseo was able to make a comeback as the Pios lost their momentum. Shortly after, ASC would go on a four-point rally to put them back in the set, as Gregoire and Stem added kills to their day. The Knights were able to keep the Pioneers at bay and take home the final set with 19-25.

Alfred State will hit the court again tomorrow in hopes for a better turnout, as they take on Buffalo State at 1 pm and Fredonia at 3 pm.
