Late Goal Holds Pioneers To Draw

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Men's Soccer team was held to a 1-1 draw with the visiting Fredonia State Blue Devils. The Pioneers stay undefeated as their record moves to 3-0-2.

Alfred State came out strong winning set pieces in the attacking half which led to a goal from a corner kick in the ninth minute, flicked on from Brogan Cotter and then fell to the foot of Ryan Masi for the opening goal of the game and his second goal of the season. ASC was able to hold strong defensively the rest of the half not allowing any shots towards their goal in the first half.

Five minutes into the second half Cotter played a great pass to the top of the penalty area where the Fredonia goalkeeper handled the ball outside the box resulting in a red card for the Blue Devils goalkeeper, giving the Pioneers the man advantage for the rest of the half. Despite the ejection, Fredonia put pressure on Alfred State, creating multiple scoring opportunities and firing off eight shots in the second half. The Blue Devils were able to find the equalizer in the 78th minute from a shot inside the box to tie the game at 1-1. Despite late efforts from set piece opportunities the Pioneers could not find a winner as the match finished as a 1-1 draw.

Ryan Masi scored the lone goal for the Pioneers with his second in two games. Brogan Cotter added his first assist of the season, and Alexander Preston was able to make three saves in goal.

Alfred State heads to Geneseo to battle the Knights on Wednesday, September 17th. Kickoff set for 4pm.
