Pioneers Fall In A Close Matchup Against St. John Fisher

Pittsford, NY- The Alfred State baseball team suffered a close loss against St. John Fisher, 6-5. The Pioneers fall to 24-14 on the year.

Tyler Korsky led the way at the plate as he went 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Elijah Barinas tallied two RBIs while Connor Kiefer put in a double. Nathan Lucks would suffer the loss.

The Pioneers got on the board first, scoring two runs in the first. Kiefer led off with a double then stole third a few pitches later. Barinas would bring Kiefer home after reaching on an error for the 1-0 lead. Frank Grad followed by reaching on a fielder's choice, then Korsky notched a single that put runners on the corners. An RBI sacrifice fly from Jordan Hughes made in a 2-0 game.

After the Cardinals scored a run, the Pios answered with on of their own in the top of the second to retake a two-run lead. With one out, Gavin Lasko got walked and Parker Drees followed with a single. After both runners advanced on a groundout, Lasko would score on an error for the 3-1 lead.

In the third, SJF scored four runs to take a 5-3 lead. After two scoreless innings, the Cardinals added one more run to their lead to make it a 6-3 lead. Then in the top on the seventh the Pioneers cut into their deficit by scoring two runs. Grad got walked to lead of the inning and stole second a few pitches later. He would score on an RBI double from Korsky to make in a 6-4 game. After a walk and a change of pitchers, Zack Young laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third. Caleb Walker then got intentionally walked to load the bases, and Korsky would score on a wild pitch.

From there the Pioneers could not get any closer as SJF went on to win 6-5. The Pioneers will be on the road this Sunday for their regular season finale against Allegheny at 1 pm.
