Game Recap: Softball |

Pios Strong Offense Was Not Enough Against The Panthers

Bradford, PA- The Alfred State Softball team battled through a tough cold doubleheader today against Pitt-Bradford. Even after showcasing their strong offense, with a homerun in the first game and a grand slam in the second, they ultimately fell to the Panthers, 9-5 and 11-9.

Game one saw Marissa Ordway starting on the mound only for an injury to pull her from the game in the third inning. Abby Beidel would then finish the game off for the Pioneers, only allowing four hits. Amy Campbell went 1-2 at the plate with her first career homerun in game one. Nicole Youngberg also went 3-4 with three RBI.

To start the game off strong, Campbell smacked a homer in her first at bat dead center, putting the Pioneers on the board early, 1-0. Madigan Harris would continue this energy in the first as she singled to right field, scoring Youngberg, 2-0. UPG would snag one run in the bottom of the inning. Youngberg would crank a three run RBI double to center, only feet away from being the Pios second homerun of the day, 5-1. The Panters would then manage to hold the Pioneers scoreless for the remainder of the first game while they tacked on eight runs and securing the first game win, 9-5.

In game two, Ordway would attempt to see the mound only Beidel to have to step back in. Senior, Beidel stepped up in today's doubleheader as she threw a total of nine innings. The Pios bats were on fire in game two as Madigan Harris led the way going 3-3 at the plate with a grand slam in the third inning. Trinity Scott also went 2-3 at the plate.

Pitt-Bradford found themselves on the board first, scoring five runs in the first three innings. After Campbell, Scott and Caley Larsen found their way onto the bases, Madigan Harris would knock one out past the left field fence. The Pioneers were back in the game and ready to battle.
UPB would grab six more runs before ASC found their momentum again in the bottom of the seventh. After bases were loaded, Madigan Harris would come in clutch again doubling to right center scoring two, 6-11. Mckinlee Harris would continue this by singling a shot up the middle, scoring yet another run for the Pios. Abbie Millard would reach first on a fielder's choice, which scored Harris. Scott would also score on another fielding error, 9-11.

ASC ultimately couldn't find a few more runs as the Panthers took home the game two win, 11-9.

The Pioneers are set to face Pitt-Greensburg this weekend.
