Pioneers Split the Day With Pitt-Bradford

Houghton, NY- Alfred State Baseball splits games 1-1 to the Pitt-Bradford Panthers as the Pioneers move 17-11 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Game 2: 5-3

Christopher Mattoon picks up his third win on the season while pitching 8.0 innings. In those eight innings he scattered three runs over 9 hits while having four strikeouts. Michael Gangloff gets his second save of the season coming in and finishing the last inning for the Pioneers. Elijah Barinas went 3-4 tallying in 1 RBI and Anthony Snyder went 2-3 as well.
 
After a slow four innings for Alfred State, they finally opened the gates in the fifth inning with a Barinas single to shortstop. Then Frank Grad doubled to bring Barinas home from first to score the pioneers first points of the game. Then after a strikeout from Tyler Korsky Jordan Hughes homered for the Pioneers to open the game 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the next inning Alfred State scored again from a Conor Kiefer SAC bunt to advance Snyder to second and bring Devin MersMann home from third to make the game 4-0. The next batter Barinas opens the game up more for the Pios with a single to left field which scored Snyder from second base to make the game 5-0. After not scoring for the first six innings the Panthers finally got on the board and scored three runs in the seventh inning.
 
The Pioneers were able to stay in front of the Panthers for the remaining of the game with neither team scoring for the rest of the game and the Pioneers took the win 5-3.
 
 
Game 1: 5-2

Jordan Hughes started on the mound for the Pioneers and suffered the loss against the Panthers. Tyler Korsky went 2-3 on the night with an RBI of his own as well as Anthony Snyder going 1-2 with an RBI of his own as well.
 
Pitt-Bradford got on the board first scoring the first five runs of the game in the first four innings. ASC picked up their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Walker led off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Korsky followed with an RBI single to left center to make it a 5-1 game. Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, Alfred State scored again after Frank Grad reached on an error and advanced to second. After moving over to third, Grad went home to score on a RBI sacrifice fly from Snyder to make it 5-2.
 
The Panthers were able to stay in front of the Pios for the rest of the game as they took the win 5-2 in game one.
 
 
The Pioneers are on the road this weekend set to face Pitt-Greensburg in a Doubleheader on Sunday first pitch is set for 1pm.
