Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Softball team tallied a sweep on the day against the Carlow Celtics, 14-9 and 10-2. The Pios are now 6-16 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.

Game 1 (14-9):
Game one saw
Abby Beidel start in the circle for the Pios with
Hailee Smith coming in and securing the win.
Liana Dion and
Abbie Millard went 3-3 at the plate.
Abigail Marinelli also went 2-3 with a big homerun in game one.

The Celtics hit the board first, tacking three runs in the first inning. ASC shot back immediately, notching two runs in the bottom of the inning as
Caley Larsen and
Nicole Youngberg both doubled, 3-2. Carlow would grab four additional runs in the next inning, putting the Pioneers on their toes. The Pios would battle hard for the next two runs they earned, 7-4.

It wasn't until the third inning that the Pios kicked it into high gear as Marinelli smacked a three-run homer over left field to tie the game, 7-7. They would continue to tally four more runs that inning. The Celtics would try to make a comeback as they notched two more runs during the game, but ASC closed it out by adding another three runs, taking home the first game win 14-9.

Game 2 (10-2):
Marissa Ordway started and brought home the win on the mound in game two. Youngberg smacked the ball around as she went 3-4 at the plate, Millard also going 3-3.

Carlow slated the first run of the game in the first inning again but the Pioneers answered back with their own run, 1-1. In the next two innings, ASC tacked on two more runs off a loaded bases walk and a wild pitch. The Celtics could only respond with one run in the fourth inning which was their last run of the game.

The Pios controlled the remainder of the game even after a lightning delay. Millard kickstarted this rally as she doubled to right center in the fifth inning and
Amy Campbell notched a sac fly to score another. The Pios shut down the game in the sixth after scoring five runs.
Trinity Scott cranked a triple to left center to complete the game, 10-2.

The Pioneers will hit their home field this Tuesday against Hilbert, first pitch set for 3 pm.
