Pioneers Split Against UT Dallas A Top-30 Team In the Nation

Fort Meyers, FL- The Alfred State baseball team split the day against Texas-Dallas who is receiving votes (Top-30 team in the Nation). The Pioneers fell 5-1 before taking game two 6-2. The Pios move to 6-4 on the year.

Game 2 – 6-2

In game two, Connor Kiefer led the way going 3-3 with a homerun and a double for three RBIs. Jordan Hughes went 2-3 with both hits being a double. On the mound, Christopher Mattoon pitched a complete 7.0 inning game to get the win as he scattered two runs over six hits with five strikeouts.

 After holding the Comets scoreless in the top of the first, Elijah Barinas singled through the left side and went to second on a passed ball. Kiefer followed with an RBI single to left field for the 1-0 lead. Hughes then stepped in the box and notched his first double of the game, as Kiefer advanced to third. Tyler Korsky would extend the Pioneers lead with an RBI sacrifice fly for the 2-0 lead.

In the next ASC at bat, Caleb Walker notched a one out double down the right field line and would go to third on a passed ball a few pitches later. Devin Mersmann followed with an RBI single that would push the lead to 3-0.

Then in the third, the Pios added three more runs. Barinas led off with a walk, and Kiefer stepped in the box and hit a no-doubt homerun over the left field fence for the 5-0 lead. Hughes followed with his second double of the game. After a change of pitchers, Korsky notched an RBI single up the middle to make it a 6-0 game.

The Comets would get two runs in the sixth but could not get any closer as the Pioneers won 6-2.

Game 1 - 5-1

In game one, Kiefer led the way going 1-4 with a double and an RBI. Ryan Bailey would suffer the loss on the mound as he pitched 6.0 innings allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Pioneers lone run came in the first. With one out Barinas singled up the middle and went to second on a balk. Kiefer followed with his RBI double to make it a 1-0 game. The Comets went on to win 5-1.

The Pios are back in action tomorrow as they take on Hiram at 12 pm
