Late Rally Was Not Enough Against Yellow Jackets

Rochester, NY- The Alfred State baseball team dropped a hard fought game against the University of Rochester, 6-5. The Pioneers fall to 10-7 on the year.

Nathan Lucks got the start on the mound and pitched 4.2 innings tallied four strikeouts. Spencer Riehler suffered the loss after coming in relief and pitching 1.1 innings. At the plate, Tyler Korsky led the way as he went 3-4.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board first by scoring one run in the first. They followed with one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Alfred State answered in the sixth scoring two runs. With one out, Korsky and Jordan Hughes notched back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Gavin Lasko tallied an RBI single through the left side to make it a 4-1 game. A few plays later, Korsky would come home to score on an error, 4-2.

Then in the eighth, the Pios scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Pioneers would get the bases loaded with one out before Joshua Gardner tallied an RBI hit by pitch. Connor Kiefer followed with a two RBI single up the middle for the 5-4 lead.

The Yellow Jackets was able to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, and walked it off with a run in the ninth for the 6-5 win. The Pioneers will be back on the road this weekend as they travel to Maryland for a three game series against Washinton College.
