Pioneers Fall In A Close Battle Against Warriors

Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State baseball team lost a close battle against Wisconsin Lutheran 7-6. The Pioneers drop to 7-5 on the season.

Caleb Walker led the way at the plate as he went 2-4 homer and a triple for four RBIs. Tyler Korsky and Elijah Barinas both put in doubles. Nathan Lucks got the start and the loss as he pitched 4.1 innings allowing six hits, five runs, only one earned run and four strikeouts.  Michael Gangloff came in relief and pitched 1.0 innings and tallied two strikeouts.

The Pioneers got on the board first, as Joshua Gardner led off the game with a single. After a walk, Connor Kiefer laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. Then, Gardner would come home on an RBI sacrifice fly from Jordan Hughes for the 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers added two more runs to their lead in the second. Zach Young led off by reaching on a passed ball. Caleb Walker followed with a two-run blast over the right field fence for the 3-0 lead.

The Warriors answered in the bottom of the second with four runs. Then followed with one run in the fifth, and two in the seventh for the 7-3 lead. The Pioneers rallied in the eighth, scoring three runs of their own. Hughes got walked to lead off the inning, Korsky followed by reaching on an error, then both would advance on a wild pitch. Walker would then step in the box and put in a two RBI triple down the right field line to make in a 7-5 game. Walker would steal home to make it a 7-6 game, but the Pioneers could not get any closer as WLC went on to win 7-6.

The Pioneers will be back on the field tomorrow for a game against Dean at 3 pm.
