Yaphank, NY- The Alfred State baseball team split the day against RV Eastern Connecticut State. The Pioneers took game one 8-1, then fell in game two 14-7, the Pioneers move to 5-3 on the season.
Game One 8-1
In game one, Ryan Bailey pitched a complete 9.0 inning game, scattering one run over five hits with six strikeouts. At the plate, Elijah Barinas led the way going 3-4 with an RBI. Jordan Hughes  went 2-5 with a double and two RBIs. Zach Young tallied one hit that went over the fence with two RBIs.
After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors scored their lone run of the game. Later in the fourth, the Pioneers got on the board, scoring two runs. With two outs, Tyler Korsky notched a double to left center, and Young followed with a two-run homer over the right field fence for the 2-1 lead.
Barinas added a run to their lead in the fifth on an RBI single, 3-1. Later in the seventh, Hughes notched a two RBI double to make it a 5-1 lead over the Warriors. Then in the eighth, with two on and no outs, Devin Mersmann notched a two RBI double to right center for the 7-1 lead. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Mersmann would score on an RBI sacrifice fly by Connor Kiefer for the 8-1 lead.
The Pioneers held off the East Conn to get the 8-1 game one win.
Game Two 14-7
In game two, Christopher Matton suffered the loss after pitching 4.1 innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs while tallying an strikeout. At the plate, Korsky led the way going 2-6 with a double and three RBIs. Joshua Gardner notched a homerun on his lone hit.
The Warriors got off to a hot start scoring six run in the second. The Pioneers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, from a two RBI homerun by Joshua Gardner,6-2. The Warriors went on to score three more runs in the third for the 9-2 lead.
In the fifth, the Pios cut into the lead scoring one run. With one out Caleb Walker notched a double, then went to third on a James Camacho single. Mersmann followed with an RBI single to make it a 9-3 game.
East Conn would score three runs over the sixth and seventh innings to make it a 12-3 game. ASC answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the deficit. With the bases loaded and two outs, Korsky notched a bases clearing three RBI double down the right field line to make it a 12-6 game. Young followed with another RBI double to right field to make it a 12-7 game.
The Warriors added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to make it a 14-7 game. The Pioneers were able to get two on but no one across as the Warriors went on to win. The Pioneers will be back in action next Sunday, as they have a double-header against UT Dallas on day one of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, FL. The first game is set to start at 9 am.
