Salisbury, MD- The Alfred State Baseball team split today's double-header against Salisbury, losing the first game 10-7 and winning the second game 11-10. The Pioneers are now 4-2.
In game two, the Pios saw seven pitchers throw.
Spencer Riehler earning the win on the mound.
Jordan Hughes went 3-4 at the plate notching four RBI's.
Elijah Barinas went 2-4 at the plate and
Zach Young went 1-3 but tallied 3 RBI's for the Pios as well.
The Seagulls got the first jump in the first inning, putting up one run, 1-0. Hughes was quick to respond in the top of the second as he rocketed a homer over center field, tying the game 1-1. Salisbury didn't hesitate to put two more runs up in the bottom of the second, 3-1. Bottom of third earned two more runs for the Seagulls, putting them up by four, 5-1.
Top of the fourth, Kiefer immediately knocked a homer over the left field fence. After a
Tyler Korsky walk, Hughes singled to left field, advancing Korsky to third and in scoring position. Young would then tack on an RBI to right, scoring Korsky, 5-3. Salisbury would then tack on another run in the bottom of the inning, 6-3 Pios trailing.
The Pios struggled to grab any runs in the fifth, the Seagulls adding another run making it 7-3 going into the sixth inning. In the sixth, neither team added to the board. Bottom of the seventh, the Seagulls notched two more runs, putting the Pios behind 9-3. The Pioneers picked up the energy at the top of the eighth tallying three runs from Lasko and an error by Salisbury, 9-6. The Seagulls grabbed one more run to end the inning, 10-6.
With the Pios momentum going strong into the top of the ninth, Barinas singling to third kick started a five run rally. After two walks, bases are loaded for the Pioneers. Hughes was big at the plate today as he doubled to left center earning a three run RBI. Young then came up and knocked one out of the park to secure the game 11-10.
In game one, the Pios threw three arms,
Christopher Mattoon,
Zach Miner and
Daniel Lewis. Mattoon suffering the loss pitching 7.1 innings, tallying four strikeouts. At the plate,
Caleb Walker went 3-3 with one RBI, while
James Camacho went 3-4 with one RBI.
ASC tacked on runs first, at the top of the third inning started by a Walker single to center. Camacho was quick to follow suit, also singling to center field moving Walker into scoring position at third base. On a Seagull error, Josh Gardner then reached first, moving Camacho and scoring Walker. Gardner would then create havoc on the bases, allowing Camacho to score, 2-0. Salisbury would then manage to tack on one run in the bottom of the fourth, 2-1.
In the fifth inning, Walker smoked a double to right field, putting himself in a perfect position to score.
Parker Drees then knocked a double to center field, only moving Walker to third. Camacho would then score Walker as he singled to right field, 3-1. The Seagulls were quick to snap back as they snagged 4 runs in the bottom of the inning, taking control, 5-3.
ASC continued to battle back, scoring one run in the sixth and three in the seventh as they found their momentum and took over, 7-5. Unfortunately, the Seagulls had a major comeback inning in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs and taking home the win 10-7.
The Pioneers will be back on the field this Sunday at Marywood University, first pitch set for 12 pm.
