ASC Wins On The Road

 
Pittsburgh, PA- Alfred State women's basketball team took a win on the road against the Carlow Celtics 54-42. Pios record moved to 7-18 on the season after the win.

Josie Barton had a strong night all around for the Pioneers as she tallied 15 points, two steals, eight rebounds, and five assists. Taylor Bejamin dominated with 11 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Sarah Somers and Jordan Niles led the way on defense with three steals a piece.

Starting off the first quarter, Benjamin put Alfred on the board first with a bucket at the hoop. Shortly after, Somers made a shot of her own at a close distance.

Both teams struggled to find their offense for the remainder of the first quarter. However, Taylor Seale closed off the period with a bucket in the paint to give the Pioneers a 10-6 lead.

Pios began to see some momentum in the second quarter as Kirsten Merritt and Barton knocked down a triple. Additionally, Erin Mitchel knocked down a mid-range jumper to add to the lead (19-16) with just over three minutes remaining before halftime.

The Pioneers came out of half time with it all tied up. After some time, Pios were trailing but tied the game once again after Niles and Benjamin scored a layup (25-25). Alfred then went on to grab 31-27 lead after Merritt hit triple that was followed by a Barton three. Somers closed off the quarter with her layup that brought the lead to six.

Three minutes into the final quarter, Barton hit another shot from long distance after some back and forth from both teams. Somers followed the long distance bomb up with a layup to give the Pios a 10-point lead (42-32).

The Pioneers continued to maintain their lead for the rest of the game has the grabbed the win 54-42.
