Pioneers Earn An Exciting Win Over Bobcats

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Women's Basketball team notched a big win on their home court this afternoon against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats, 68-48. Five Pios earned double digits in today's match-up.
 
Josie Barton had a great showing today, notching a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Benjamin earned 15 points and nine rebounds on the day as well. Sarah Somers added 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Jordan Niles and Taylor Searle tallying behind her each with 10 points.
 
The Pioneers started the game off strong, immediately tacking on five points from a Somers layup and Barton three. The Bobcats would battle back and create a big distance from the Pios as they took the first quarter 20-13. ASC picked up the pace in the second quarter starting with a Benjamin layup. Going into halftime, the Pioneers took control by only one bucket, 30-28.
 
With high energy, the Pios worked as a team in the third quarter, going on a seven-point rally that was started by an Anna Merry layup in the paint. Searle and Benjamin buckets to follow. With only a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter, the Bobcats pushed the Pioneers with every possession. After a Bobcat layup, ASC would then go on to a 11-point rally with excitement started by a layup from Searle, giving them a 13 point lead, 57-44. With three minutes left in the game, Benjamin would notch a layup quickly followed by a big steal and layup by Jenna George. Benjamin would then knock down four more points along with a Somers free throw to secure the game, 68-48.
 
ASC will be back on the court next Saturday at home to take on the Mount Aloysius Mounties, tip off set for 4 pm.
