Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's basketball team suffered a 74-60 setback against the La Roche Redhawks. The Pioneers drop to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Mykell Lawson led the way for Alfred with 23 points, two steals, and three made triples. Elijah Kioko filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.

Alfred opened the game slowly, falling behind 9-2 early. The Pioneers began to settle in offensively, tying the game at 11-11 behind contributions from Darius Cunningham Jr. and Lawson.

After more back-and-forth play, Alfred trailed again at 20-15. With 8:43 remaining, Lawson scored inside and followed with a transition layup to pull within one, 20-19. The Pioneers then surged ahead as Ben Sneddon converted a bucket after a Lawson three-pointer and layup, giving Alfred a 27-25 lead. Both teams entered halftime deadlocked at 29-29.

La Roche opened the second half with a quick basket before JJ Howard answered with a layup. The teams continued trading buckets, with Howard, Kioko, and Lawson providing key scoring for the Pioneers.

Despite their efforts, Alfred was unable to regain momentum down the stretch as the Redhawks slowly pulled away, resulting in the 74-60 final.
