Keuka Park, NY — The Alfred State men's basketball team captured a big road victory Wednesday night, powering past the Keuka Wolves, 92–75. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 2–6 on the season as they continue building momentum.
Darius Cunningham Jr. paced the offense with an impressive 26 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Mykell Lawson followed with a strong performance of his own, posting 21 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Ben Sneddon contributed 19 points while dominating the glass with nine rebounds.
The Pioneers struck early, sparked by back-to-back threes from Lawson to take a 6–0 lead. Keuka briefly steadied themselves and inched ahead, but Alfred State regained control midway through the first half as Cunningham Jr. and Eli Taft converted from beyond the arc. The Pioneers carried a 39–34 advantage into the break.
Cunningham Jr. set the tone again to open the second half, scoring the first six points before Sneddon added a jumper inside. The Wolves stayed within reach until the 10-minute mark, when Alfred State surged ahead to a 70–52 lead. JJ Howard delivered a momentum-building dunk in the final minutes, and Lawson sealed the win with a fastbreak layup and a converted and-one opportunity, closing out the 92–75 victory.
The Pioneers return home this Saturday to host the La Roche Redhawks following the women's game. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
