Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pioneers Battled But Fell Short Against Clarkson

Potsdam, NY- The Alfred State men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against Clarkson, 75-73. The Pioneers fall to 2-10 through the first half of the season.

The Pioneers were led by Mykell Lawson who tallied 26 points and six rebounds. Elijah Kioko notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Darius Cunningham Jr. added 14 points and two blocks. JJ Howard came off the bench and tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.

The Pioneers got off to a quick start as they led 16-8 with 12 minutes left in the half.  The Knights were able to fight back to take a 41-37 lead into the half time break.

To start the second half, Clarkson extended their lead to 12, 53-41. Following a media timeout, Lawson knocked down a pull-up, before Avery Cunningham put in a three on the next Pioneer possession. After getting a stop, Lawson tallied an old fashion three-point play to cut the deficit to six, 55-49. After some back-and-forth action, Cunningham Jr. tied the game at 67-67 with a three, and a little over five minutes remaining. From there, the Pios took the 71-68 lead behind two free throws from Lawson and Howard. The Knights would go on a 7-2 run to regain the late lead, 75-73. ASC was able to get a stop with 15 seconds left in the game and got two good looks from three to win the game, but both attempts rimmed out and Clarkson won, 75-73.

The Pioneers will be off until January 2nd when they travel to Ithaca, NY to take on Cornell University at 2 pm.
