Greensburg, PA – The Alfred State women's soccer team saw their season come to a narrow end in heartbreaking fashion, falling to #2 seed Pitt-Greensburg in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw. The Pioneers finish the season with an overall record of 11-6-1.
Isabella Hoffmann led the offensive effort with five shots, including two on goal, while
Karlee Hargather added another shot on target. In goal,
Madeline Cox was stellar, recording six saves to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard through regulation and overtime.
In the first half, Pitt-Greensburg controlled much of the possession and outshot Alfred State 8-3, but Cox made four key saves to send the teams into halftime tied 0-0.
The second half saw the intensity rise as both teams generated scoring chances. The Bobcats held a slight advantage in pressure, earning four corner kicks and four free kicks, but neither side could break through as regulation ended scoreless.
Neither team managed a shot during the overtime periods, forcing the match to be decided by penalty kicks. The Pioneers ultimately fell 3-2 in the shootout, ending a strong 2025 campaign.
Karlee Hargather led Alfred State this season with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists, followed closely by Hoffmann with 28 points, 12 goals, and four assists.
Maddie Mark contributed six goals and one assist. Cox finished the season with a 0.741 save percentage, 63 saves, and a 7-6-1 record in goal.
