Cobleskill, NY- The Alfred State women's basketball team came up short against the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in tonight's Tuesday match-up, 49-40. The Pioneers sit early in the season with a 1-3 overall record.

Sarah Somers led the way for the Pios with a double-double, tallying 16 rebounds and 12 points.
Taylor Benjamin and
Alyssa Auer added in seven points of their own as well.

The first quarter saw little action for both teams, as they struggled to find their momentum and composure. With the score 9-7 in favor of the Tigers going into the second quarter, Alfred was determined to cut the deficit.
Emeline Barton sank two free throws to cut the score to a close 15-14. Cobleskill found themselves four more points to put them up by five going into halftime.

Keeping the score close, Benjamin knocked down four points during the third quarter with Somers, Auer and
Jordan Niles each adding in their own buckets. With just 10 minutes left on the clock, with a score still in favor of Cobleskill, 32-24, the Pioneers struck first as Somers grabbed a layup in the paint delivered from Benjamin. With 26 seconds left, Niles put the final point on the board for the Pios to which the Tigers held them to a 49-40 win.

Alfred heads to Elmira this Saturday to take on the Soaring Eagles in a 2 pm match-up.
