Reading, PA- The Alfred State men's wrestling team registered seven place finishes at the Tonee Ellis Memorial Tournament. Alfred placed 6
th out of 15 teams.
Sean Malenfant was the highest place finish at 3
rd in the 184 bracket. Malenfant opened with a tech fall over Trey Shoemaker (Shippensburg) in 6:39 and a 3-1 decision over Alex Ward (Kutztown). He then followed with a quarterfinal win by fall over Jesse Rappazzo (Alvernia University) in 1:41. After suffering a loss in the semifinal, Malenfant bounced back with a win by fall over Jesse Rappazzo (Alvernia University) in 2:40.
In the 141 bracket,
Tyler Zwald opened with back-to-back falls over Jacob Hall (Albright College) in 4:32, and Ryan Trimber (Pennsylvania College of Technology) in 3:27. In the quarterfinal, Zwald delivered a 10-6 win by decision over Trokon Kai (Eastern). After losing in the semifinal and 3
rd place match, Zwald finished at 4
th place.
Ryan Farley in the 125 bracket tallied a 5
th place finish. Farley kicked off with a 4-3 decision over Remy Trach (Kutztown) and followed with an 8-1 sudden victory win over Noah Hinkel (Gettysburg). After Farley suffered a loss in the quarterfinal, he bounced back with an 11-4 win over Angelo Di Pol (Bethany College) in consolation round 4. He then followed with a consolation semifinal win over Julian Zaragoza (Alvernia University) by a 6-3 decision. Farley caped off the 5
th place match delivering a no contest win over Remy Trach (Kutztown).
Other finishers were: Black Burtis (133) in 6
th,
Owen Cummings (157) in 6th,
Colton Hai (285) in 6
th, and
Brandon DellaPia (165) in 8
th.
The Pioneers will head to Washington, PA next for the Washington and Jefferson Invite. It is set to begin on Saturday, November 8
th at 9:30 am.
