Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Football team was defeated at home by the visiting Cortland Red Dragons with a final score of 49-7. The Pioneers fall to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Empire 8 play.
Noah Currier led the Pioneers offense with 187 yards on 26 rushing attempts and a touchdown.
Justin Horvath went 6-9 and 37 yards passing and
Chase Shepanski came in for relief for Horvath and went 4-11 for 50 yards.
Matthew Mancuso hauled in three passes for 28 yards. On the defensive side,
Chris Bergman tallied 11 total tackles with one going for a loss.
Evan Bowen also chipped in with six total tackles, with three going for a loss.
Aaron Ellis tallied an interception to go with his four tackles.
Cortland wasted no time on offense as they scored on their first drive of the game to make it 7-0. Later in the quarter the Red Dragons were able to double their lead to make it 14-0 going into the second quarter.
In the Second quarter, the Red Dragons scored 33 seconds in to make it 21-0. The Pioneers offense couldn't get on the board as Cortland was able to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Red Dragons added two more touchdowns to their lead to push It to 35-0 in third quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, Currier was able to break loose for a 67-yard rushing touchdown to put the Pios on the board, 35-7. ASC was not able to score again while Cortland added two more touchdowns in the fourth as the Red Dragons took that game, 49-7.
Alfred State will return to action next week to take on Alfred University at home for the first time ever. Kickoff scheduled for 12pm.
