Lions Score Three Unanswered To Defeat ASC

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's soccer team was narrowly defeated by Penn State Behrend, 3-1. The Pioneers finish the regular season with an 8-3-6 overall record and a 4-1-3 mark in AMCC play.

Henry Leahy scored his 12th goal of the season, while Liam Fitzpatrick provided the assist—his fifth of the year. Alexander Preston made three saves in the loss.

The match opened with both teams battling for possession in the air, but the Pioneers eventually gained momentum. Alfred State broke through in the 16th minute when Fitzpatrick delivered a well-placed free kick into the penalty area, and H. Leahy rose above the Lions' defense to head the ball home for a 1-0 lead.

ASC held Behrend at bay for much of the first half, but the Lions equalized in the 41st minute after capitalizing on a loose ball in the box. The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.

In the second half, Behrend found their rhythm, taking the lead on a free kick 10 minutes after the restart to make it 2-1. The Pioneers pushed for an equalizer, but the Lions maintained pressure and extended their lead after converting another loose ball opportunity to seal the 3-1 victory.

With the regular season complete, the Pioneers enter the AMCC postseason as the #3 seed. They will host #6 seed Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, November 1st, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
