Byron-Bergen Duo Leads Alfred State Past Bobcats

Greensburg, PA– The Alfred State men's soccer team earned a key conference win on the road Saturday, defeating Pitt-Greensburg 2-0. With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 8-2-6 overall and 4-0-3 in AMCC play.

Byron-Bergen natives Jack Farner and Colin Martin provided the offense, with Farner netting his fourth goal of the season and Martin adding his second. Alexander Preston secured the shutout in goal, making three saves.

The Pioneers controlled the first half, dominating possession and pinning the Bobcats deep in their own half. Alfred State outshot Greensburg 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net, sending the match into halftime scoreless.

In the second half, the Pioneers continued to dictate play and finally broke through in the 54th minute. A long throw-in from Liam Fitzpatrick caused chaos in the box before Martin headed it home to give Alfred State a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Fitzpatrick delivered another dangerous cross that found its way to Farner, who calmly finished to double the lead.

The Pioneers held strong for the remainder of the match, earning a convincing 2-0 shutout victory over the Bobcats.

Alfred State returns home on Tuesday, October 28, to face Penn State Behrend in their final regular-season matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
