Brockport, NY- The Alfred State football team suffered a tough loss to SUNY Brockport, 48-14. The Pioneers fall to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 against conference opponents.
Justin Horvath went 15-35 for 109 yards with a rushing touchdown and an interception.
Noah Currier tallied 39 yards on 16 carries and scored the Pioneers' other touchdown. He also totaled seven receptions for 66 yards.
Josh Graham led the rushing attack as he went for 53 yards on 14 carries with the longest run going for 17 yards.
Ryan Heinz led the defensive side with 11 tackles including one tackle for a loss.
Chris Bergman came away with nine tackles, while
Aaron Ellis added eight tackles.
Nathaniel Garcia pulled down his first career interception, while
Evan Bowen tallied his second interception of the season.
The Golden Eagles come out of the gate fast as they score three touchdowns in the first quarter, and one in the second quarter for the 27-0 lead. The Pioneers were able to put together and long 16 play 61-yard drive to cut into the deficit before halftime. Horvath capped that drive with a one-yard rush to the right side for a touchdown and
Matthew Perry added the extra point to make it a 27-7 game at half.
Brockport extended their lead in the third quarter as they scored three more touchdowns for the 49-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. Late in the fourth, Garcia pulled down his interception and returned it to the Brockport 15 yardline with a little over five minutes to go in the game. The Pios capitalized on this opportunity, after four straight rushes from Currier, he found the endzone on a three-yard run to the side to make it a 48-14 game.
The Golden Eagles would run out the rest of the clock to get the win. The Pioneers will return home next week on October 25
th for a matchup against Hartwick. That game is set to kickoff at 4 pm.
