Alfred State Rallies from Two Deficits to Tie Hilbert 3-3

Hamburg, NY – The Alfred State men's soccer team battled back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to earn a 3-3 draw on the road against Hilbert on Tuesday afternoon.

Henry Leahy led the Pioneers' offensive charge with two goals, bringing his season total to 10. Colin Martin scored his first collegiate goal for Alfred State, while Aaron Salisbury recorded his first point as a Pioneer with an assist. Lucas Jorgenson and Aiden Boyer also added assists. In goal, Alexander Preston made five saves on eight shots faced.

The opening half was a back-and-forth battle, with both sides looking to establish control through long balls and quick transitions. Hilbert broke the deadlock in the 35th minute after an unfortunate deflection off a Pioneer defender rolled past Preston to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead — a margin they carried into halftime.

Just two minutes into the second half, Hilbert doubled its advantage from the penalty spot. Preston got a hand to the shot but couldn't keep it out, putting the hosts ahead 2-0. Alfred State responded ten minutes later when Salisbury whipped a ball across the box that Martin calmly finished to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Momentum began to shift as the Pioneers pressed forward. In the 63rd minute, Jorgenson sent a pinpoint cross into the box that found Henry Leahy, who headed it home to level the score at 2-2. However, Hilbert regained the lead shortly after, capitalizing on a quick counterattack to go up 3-2.

Refusing to quit, Alfred State found another equalizer late in the match. Following a free kick sent into the box, Boyer squared a pass to Henry Leahy, who tapped it in for his second goal of the day and tied the game at 3-3. Despite continued pressure in the closing minutes, the Pioneers couldn't find a winner as the match ended in a draw.

Alfred State returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, October 18th, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
