Masi’s Late Equalizer Salvages a Draw Against The Mounties

Cresson, PA – The Alfred State men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw on the road against Mount Aloysius. The Pioneers move to 5-2-5 overall and 2-0-2 in AMCC conference play.

Henry Leahy led the way with a goal and an assist, bringing his season point total to 21. Ryan Masi added on with his fourth goal of the season. Brogan Cotter and Liam Fitzpatrick each added an assist, while goalkeeper Alexander Preston made six saves on eight shots between the pipes.

The Pioneers started the game on the back foot as the Mounties fired off two quick shots within the first five minutes. The match proved to be a physical one, with both teams combining for five yellow cards in the first half and 13 in total. Alfred State eventually gained momentum and broke through in the 34th minute when Fitzpatrick's free kick was flicked on by Cotter and finished by Henry Leahy to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Mount Aloysius came out strong in the second half, applying heavy pressure on the Pioneer back line. The Mounties found the equalizer in the 55th minute, then took the lead just eight minutes later from a deflected shot that looped over Preston to make it 2-1.

Alfred State faced even more adversity in the 64th minute when Jack Emo was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, forcing the Pioneers to play the rest of the match with 10 men. Despite the setback, the Pios showed resilience. In the 82nd minute, Will Leahy delivered a cross that was flicked on by Henry Leahy and finished by Masi, who threw his body on the line to score the late equalizer and secure the 2-2 draw.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, October 14th, when they travel to face Hilbert College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
