Jamestown, NY- The Alfred State men's wrestling team tallied four place finishes at the Jamestown Open.
Brent Perry and Mason Drew were the highest place finishers for the Pioneers in their respective brackets. In the 197 bracket, Perry opened the day with back-to-back falls over Jake LeClerc (Mercyhurst University) in 2:45, and Landon Martz (Slippery Rock Wrestling Club) in 5:43. After suffering a loss, Perry bounced back with a first period fall over Adan Salazar (Lackawanna College) in 1:36, to put himself in the third place match. In the third-place match, Perry notched a 6-1 decision over Jacob Kallenborn (Unattached) to take third place.
In the 125 bracket, suffered a loss in his first match before winning his next five matches. Drew won his next match over Matthew Tucci (PS Behrend) in a 19-3 tech fall. He followed with a second period fall over JJ Lucinski (Niagara Community College- Unattached) in 5:35. Drew then notched a 15-6 major decision over Kenneth Schmitz (Gannon University), followed by a 17-0 tech fall victory over Nicholas Anderson (Garrett College) to earn a spot in the third-place match. In the third-place match, Drew tallied a first period fall over Cade Stern (Pitt-Bradford) in 1:55 to claim third.
Then in the 133 bracket, Christian Caputo took fourth place. Caputo opened his day with a 1:02 fall over David Stapleton (Jamestown Community College Unattached). After a loss, he tallied two first period falls over David Stapleton (Jamestown Community College Unattached) and Edwin Mooney (Mercyhurst University Unattached), along with an 18-2 tech fall win over Michael Defoe (Unattached). Caputo would suffer his second loss in the third-place match to take fourth.
The final place finisher was Tyler Simons in the 141 bracket. Simons took sixth place after going 3-3 on the day.
The Pioneers will be back at home this Saturday for a dual against Utica at 7 pm.
