Alfred, NY- The Alfred State women's basketball took down Pitt-Bradford 64-48. The Pioneers move to 4-11 on the season and 3-3 against conference opponents.
Jenna George led the way as she tallied a season best of 16 points. Taylor Searle notched 15 points and seven rebounds, while Sarah Somers added nine points and eight rebounds.
After a back and forth first quarter, the Pios were able to take a 14-12 lead into the second. Kirsten Merritt opened the second with a three, George followed with a layup on the next possession to give ASC a 19-12 lead. After a timeout, Taylor Benjamin came away with a steal and a layup, Merritt would give the Pioneers a double-digit lead with a mid-range jumper, 23-12. From there, Alfred State held on to that lead as they took a 36-23 lead into half.
The Panther was able to cut the deficit down to five, 38-33 in the beginning of the third, but the Pioneers answered with a 14-0 run and never looked back as they went on to win 64-48.
The Pioneers will be back at home Saturday January 18th, for a game against Carlow at 4 pm.
