Box Score Alfred NY- Alfred State women's basketball team came up on the losing end of the match against Penn State Altoona's Lions 70-40. After the loss, the Pioneers fell to 3-11 on the season.

Jordan Niles led the way on offense with seven points and was followed by Taylor Benjamin and Kirsten Merritt dropping six points each. Benjamin also controlled the boards with 13 tallied rebounds.

The Pioneers started off with a slow first half as they trailed for both the first and second quarter of the game. During that period of time, Taylor Searle led the way for Alfred to try to fight back in it. Searle tallied a shot from behind the arc and two layups in the second quarter. Merritt and Benjamin hit a triple each during the second also. Pioneers entered halftime trialing 36-18.

Following halftime, Pios saw a notable contribution from Niles and Anna Merry in the third quarter by way of a layup and triple respectively. Josie Barton tallied a layup also.

Pioneers were unable to find any momentum in the fourth as they fell 70-40.

Pios will head to Bradford, PA next to face the University of Pitt-Brad. The tip off will be on Wednesday, January 15 at 7pm.
