Alfred NY- Alfred State men's basketball incurred a loss to the Penn State Altoona lions 90-68. After the loss, the Pioneers' record becomes 2-12 on the season.
Ty Gustafson led the way for the Pioneers with 12 points on 50% shooting.
Joseph Bauer followed behind with 10 points and a block.
Mekhi Belcher led the way on defensive with two blocks while
Avery Cunningham contributed three steals.
Darius Cunningham kicked off the first half for Alfred and put them on the board with a layup made. A. Cunningham made the bucket possible after he made a sharp pass off a steal. After some time, A. Cunningham continued to contribute on both sides of the floor as he tallied a shot from long distance off a
Dylan Perry dime.
Jacob Gonzalez later went on to add two layups to the score for the Pioneers with six minutes remaining before the half. The Pioneers were unable to gain momentum and shorten the Lions' lead as the score was 43-28 going into the halftime break.
In the second half, Pioneers came into it trailing and looking to swing the momentum into their favor. A. Cunningham and
Michael Miller started off strong for Alfred as they both tallied a layup each just two minutes into the action. Gustafson would add his own contribution a little bit later as he tallied a layup and followed up with a triple, 64-42. With eight minutes remaining, the Pioneers went on a late rally but were not able to shorten the gap as they fell 90-68.
