Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Men's Soccer team took down the Houghton Highlanders 3-1, to move to 4-1 on the season. This marks the first time in program history that the Pioneers was able to top the Highlanders.
Alexander Preston picked up the win in goal as he tallied one save on the game. Nuri Sarbudak netted his fourth goal of the season, while Eric Spring chipped in his second goal of the season.
The Pioneers got on the board first with a goal in the 25th minute. Sarbudak scored off a pass from Jack Leahy. A few minutes later, Houghton answered with a goal to tie the match at 1-1.
In the second half, the Pios regained the lead with a goal in the 69th minute. Spring would chip in a goal off a rebound shot by Travis Scandalis. Scandalis would receive an assist on the goal as well.
The Pioneers would get another goal off a Highlanders error to get the 3-1 lead. The Pios was able to hold off the Houghton the rest of the way to get the win.
Alfred State will return to their home pitch on Saturday 9/14 at 2:30 pm to take on Clarkson.
