Alfred State Comes Up Short In Overtime

Alfred, NY-  The Alfred State men's basketball team fell to Houghton 89-84 in a tough overtime matchup. The Pios drop to 1-5 on the season.

The Pioneers were led by Michael Miller with 31 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Jacob Gonzalez was right behind with 16 points, five assists and three steals. Dylan Perry tallied 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. While Braedyn Chambry notched 10 points, six rebounds, and one block.

In the first half both teams traded baskets, with the Pioneers having the largest lead of four points. ASC was able to take a 41-39 lead into the halftime break.

Miller opened the second-half scoring for the Pioneers with a three off a Mason Putnam pass. A few possessions, Miller knocked down another three this time off a Dylan Perry assist. The Highlanders would put a run together of their own to take a 57-50 lead. The Pioneers battled back with a run to tie the game at 71-71. Alfred State regained the lead off a Miller layup. A few minutes later after some back-and-forth action, Houghton tied the game at 81-81 on a free throw, to send it into overtime.

In overtime, Houghton took an early 85-81 lead, before Miller knocked down a deep three to make it an 85-84 game. Following a Houghton layup, the Highlands were able to string together some stops to hold off the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will be on the road Tuesday November 26th for a game against Elmira at 5 pm.
