Rochester, NY- The Alfred State Women's Volleyball team clinched a solid win on the road tonight against RIT, 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-19). The Pioneers now sit at 10-5 on the season, with their first conference match right around the corner.
 
Racquel Gerstenberger led the way for the Pios, nailing 12 kills and five digs on the night. Nayomie Ferrer aided in 26 assists, six aces and eight digs as well.
 
ASC jumped early in the first set, notching a 3-0 lead on the Tigers with two aces from Ferrer and a kill by Gabriella Thurmond. The Pios kept their dominance over RIT for most of the set, until the Tigers were able to get on their feet, closing up the score. The final rally of the first set consisted of two kills by Gerstenberger and an ace from Sarina Soto, as Alfred State claimed the first set 25-21.
 
The Pioneers kept their momentum going into the second set as they took a 5-0 lead off kills by Gerstenberger, Thurmond and Caitlyn Gilman. The Tigers were unable to recover as Alayna Tomlinson notched a few kills, followed by Erin Gregoire and Gerstenberger. With the second set at 17-8, ASC has an eight-point rally consisting of aces from Ferrer and big kills from Gerstenberger and Gilman, solidifying their 25-9 win.
 
The Tigers came back for vengeance as they took the 3-0 lead in the third set but, the Pios were quick to attack back. With a huge kill by Gerstenberger, Alfred State began their rally to take the lead. RIT was able to keep it a close and exciting set as the score was 7-7, until Tomlinson and Gregoire landed major kills. The Pioneers were able to gain a lead by a few Tiger errors, as Soto's final ace clinched the third and final win 25-19.

The Pios head to Hilbert next Tuesday to play their first conference game, time set for 7 pm.
