Greensburg, PA- The Alfred State Volleyball team swept Pitt-Greensburg in today's strong conference match up, winning the first game in three sets (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) and the second game in five sets (24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 15-8). The Pios are now 15-6 on the season, 4-1 in the conference.
Alayna Tomlinson led the first match with 14 kills, two aces and one block.
Racquel Gerstenberger and
Caitlyn Gilman each with 10 kills.
Nayomie Ferrer tallied 33 assists, 12 digs and three aces.
The Pioneers attacked early in the first set with kills by Ferrer and Gerstenberger and a Bobcat error, putting them up 3-0. ASC had two, five-point rallies throughout the set, the first started by Greensburg errors following Ferrer and Tomlinson kills, giving them a solid lead 16-9. The Pios closed out the set with an
Ava Wickes ace, two kills by Tomlinson and a kill by Ferrer, 25-15.
ASC took an aggressive 9-0 lead to start of the second set. Tomlinson, Gerstenberger and Erin Gregorie sealed the second set with intense kills, 25-11. Keeping their momentum going into the third set, Gerstenberger nailed an impressive kill. Gregorie and Tomlinson both tacked on two kills each putting the Pios up, 9-4. To clinch the final set, Gregoire notched another kill followed by a
Sarina Soto ace, 25-16.

Gene Doorley spoke about today's match up, "We put together a strong and focused team performance in conference play today! Offensively we had a very aggressive and balanced attack that was efficient in all three sets! Our defensive transition was equally as strong! Pitt-Greensburg has been performing at a high level in conference play this year and A-state was focused and truly ready to compete! I am very proud of the focus level that this team brought to today's conference match!".
The Pios took home the second match, 3-2. The Pioneers are back on their home court this Wednesday to take on Pitt-Bradford at 7pm. This match is Pink Pride so come out wearing pink and support your Pios!
