ALFRED, N.Y. – Alfred State volleyball swept Hilbert 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-15) in a dominant match. The Pioneers move to 9-5 on the season.
Racquel Gerstenberger led the Pioneers with 13 kills and 15 digs. While, Nayomie Ferrer controlled the offense with 34 assists, nine digs and two aces. Alayna Tomlinson tallied11 kills, and Erin Gregoire recorded three blocks.
Hilbert went up 4-0 in the first set, and Alfred got the ball back after a bad set and rallied to take 8-4 lead. After some back-and-forth action saw ASC take the 21-13 lead. The Pioneers would go on to win the first set, off of a kill by Tomlinson, 25-13.
In the second set, Alfred State went on a seven-point rally after a kill by Gregoire making the score 13-5. The Pioneers got the set two after a kill by Caitlyn Gilman.
In the third set, Hilbert went up 4-0 again but a kill by Gerstenberger would Pios run. The Pioneers took the lead after a kill by Gregoire making the score 7-6. Gregoire earned another kill leading the Pioneers to score five more points making the score 13-7. ASC went on to take home the third and final win 25-15, to complete the sweep.
The Pioneers head to Rochester on October 4th to take on RIT at 6 pm.
