Pioneers Walkover The Hawks

Alfred, NY- Pioneers scores a season-high 48 points in a rout over Hilbert. Jake Palmer scores three touchdowns as the Pioneers move to 2-2 on the season.

Palmer led the rushing attack, totaling 76 yards for three touchdowns. Justin Horvath went 10-13 for 215 yards with two touchdowns. Jazir Francois came away with three catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Silas Egenlauf had a 55-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. While Danny Browning, Josh Mallabar, Jeremiah Nixon, and Rylie Van Fleet came away with interceptions.

The Pioneers got on the board first with a Francois touchdown on their second drive. Horvath found Francois on a third and five and Francois did the rest, breaking two tackles on his way to the endzone for a 73-yard touchdown.

After getting a three and out, it only took ASC two plays to find the endzone. On a first and 20 from A-State 38-yard line, Horvath dropped back and found Francois deep down the sideline for a touchdown and the two-score lead.

The Pioneers broke the game open in the second quarter, as they scored three touchdowns for the 34-0 lead.

The first touchdown of the quarter came off a six play 68-yard drive. Palmer capped the drive with a 25 yard rush up the middle for a touchdown and the 21-0 lead. On the Next drive, Connor Gorr forced a fumble, and Egenlauf got the 55-yard scoop and score to take a 28-0 lead.

Three plays later, following a Van Fleet interception, Palmer got his number called and ran into the endzone for his second touchdown of the day. ASC would go into halftime with the 34-0 lead.

On the Pioneers first drive of the half, Palmer capped off a seven play 61-yard drive with a four -yard touchdown run to take a 41-0 lead.

Then in the fourth quarter, Nicholas Cuomo got his number called and notched a 31-yard touchdown run for the 48-0 lead.

Hilbert would score late in the fourth quarter to spoil the Pioneers shutout, but the Pioneers went on to win 48-7.

Alfred State will be on the road next weekend as they are set to take on Olivet on Saturday Sept 30 at noon.
