Alfred State dropped the season opener 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 17-25) to University of Maine Fort Kent.

Nayomie Ferrer Santiago led the Pioneers with 27 assists and 13 digs. Racquel Gerstenberger recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. Newcomer Alayna Tomlinson had 13 kills and 8 digs in her first collegiate game.

Sharon de Vet led the Bengals with 15 kills while Kayla Iwata passed out 22 assists and recorded 9 kills.

The Pioneers are back at it tomorrow with a pair of matches against Lancaster Bible at 10:00am and Houghton University at 12:30pm.
